What is play therapy?

Play therapy is a developmentally appropriate intervention for children. Rather than using words to work through challenges, play therapy allows children to use their natural medium of expression - play. The process is child led, allowing the child to work at a pace that is not overwhelming. The therapist facilitates the process, helping the child to explore their emotions, develop coping strategies and process difficult experiences.
In play therapy, a safe and nurturing relationship is built where the child is given the right conditions to ‘play out’ experiences, challenges and feelings. This allows children to explore and make sense of experiences with far broader perspective than talking alone would allow and without feeling put on the spot or interrogated.

“Thank you for everything you did to support my daughter - she always looked forward to her sessions and grew massively in confidence - socially and in school - over the course of her sessions.”
